We have Biggs camera here in Charlotte which has a decent selection, knowledgeable staff and rents gear. We have a Best Buy near North Lake mall that has a pretty good selection of higher end cameras and lenses, but other Best Buys seem to just have a selection of consumer grade cameras.

Best Buy in my area now has a full selection of Nikon cameras and lenses, and they usually advertise the same prices as B&H.

Here in North Carolina we no longer have camera stores. I gave Best Buy a try and was surprised how knowledgeable the salesperson was. Brian was a Nikon guy but had terrific knowledge of the entire Sony line. The prices were equal to Amazon and BH. It was nice to be able to actually hold the product.

If you chose Best Buy over B&H or Adorama you are asking to be disappointed. Don't do it! It's what comes after the sale and the customer service!

Great that you found a helpful resource at your local Best Buy. Where I live, the closest Best Buy only stocks a limited number of point and shoot cameras, with few priced over $200. A Best Buy a bit further away, has a full service photo department with Nikon, Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, and Fuji brands, and a good selection of lenses. They do push their after market warranties a bit excessively. The best option for me is a brick and mortar camera store which stocks all of the major brands with knowledgeable sales persons selling at prices comparable to B&H, Adorama, Cameta, Unique, Roberts and others.

Important thing, IMO, you were able to touch, feel and smell the camera(s) and you had
a knowledgeable sales person. Good luck, have fun and enjoy.

Yes we do, just apparently not in Greenville. Drive the hour or so to Raleigh and go to Southeastern camera - I think you’ll be impressed with the selection, the knowledge of the staff (many of which are also professional photographers), the friendliness and the fair deals. We also have a second store - Peace Camera.

You are correct, they do have knowledgeable people in their camera department. What I found here in Richmond is that they push quite hard in selling their "extended warranty". If you don't buy it, good luck getting help afterwards. I stopped going to Best Buy here.

I've found that few of the Best Buy store have adequate camera depts, and the same for audio. However, recently I stumble on one in Scottsdale, Arizona that had both and a particularly large selection of cameras in all categories. I wasn't inclined towards a purchase that day so know nothing of their draconian extended warrantee policy. I was just surprised at the difference in this particular store's offerings.

In California we have very few real camera shops left. I hear that Best Buy has a few special locations with real camera departments. But I would not hold my breath for their expertise. The experience I've had with Best Buy is they are little better than Walmart in the mental department. Though, at least the customers in our Walmarts do keep their clothes on for the most part.

I can usually figure out what I am looking at or need on Amazon, eBay, B&H, and Adorama as to photographic things. I've even bought from UHH members.
