Didn’t you hear? He died and authorities found millions of dollars in gold in his home.
actually there was a famous case of a deceased politician in Illinois, where else. Paul Powell. When he died his assistants removed 5 (FIVE) plastic garbage bags of dirty laundry from his dwelling. They did not want it found to make it look like he lived like a pig. The rest of the story is cut and pasted below...
Although Powell's government salary was never more than $30,000 a year, shoeboxes, briefcases and strongboxes with over $750,000 in cash were found in his hotel suite residence at the St. Nicholas Hotel in Springfield, Illinois within days of his death.[1][4] Another $50,000 was found in his office.[4] In his hotel room he also had 49 cases of whiskey, 14 transistor radios, and two cases of creamed corn.[5][circular reporting?] When settled in 1978 his estate was worth $4.6 million, of which $1 million was racetrack stock[5][circular reporting?] in seven Illinois racktracks.[4] A federal investigation determined that Powell had acquired much of his wealth through illegal cash bribes, which he received for giving noncompetitive state contracts to political associates. The State of Illinois received a $222,999 settlement from his estate; in addition, several state contractors were imprisoned for their roles in the affair.[4]

He was found dead in a Lagos apartment, surrounded by stacks of wrapped money. A suicide note indicated deep depression, saying, “No one ever answers my email.” ☹️

Spam is getting so bad I'm getting robocalls that leave messages in Chinese. At least they're not coming from my own phone. (Yet.)

I received an email from "Verizon" telling me that my account has been suspended. It directed me to answer a few questions to straighten it out. It was, of course, bogus.
You probably have a Verizon store nearby, so print a copy of the email and visit them. If corporate can lean on the scammer maybe someone will stop. Corps have tools we mere mortals do not.
This is sort of a sneaky scam. It relies on bank floating a fake check. Once you get the payment check from the client, you deposit it in your bank. Then they ask to have 10% sent to them. If you send them their 10% before the check actually clears, then you're screwed. The bank takes about 5 days to clear the check, but the bank 'credits' your account right away. If the check doesn't have the funds, the bank just 'uncredits' your account. You lose the 10% you sent them. The scammers relies on the bank's float time to make the scam work.
My son was just scammed using a similar scheme. He learned the hard way about bank floats and fake checks.

Yesterday it was "Amazon" on the phone wanting all my account information to "cancel a fraudulent $299 purchase." Sorry, you can't scam my answering machine.
I got a call from one of these once and played along , got about 6 calls all trying to take me further down the line . Eventually I let them have a mouthful and told them to get lost . You would think that would be the end of it but no . I got an abusive call ranting at me because I had wasted their time . They had tried to defraud me and and the cheek to do this . Unreal .
I got a call from Publishers Clearing house yesterday. I had won 3.8 million dollars and a Mercadies Benz in a color of my choice. After keeping him on the line for about 10 min. and taking down all the info necessary to get this prize in 45 min. all I had to do was give them a check (sent through Wall-mart) for $744.83. At that time I stated he could take the processing fee out of the winnings, he ask if I thought this was a joke , I stated since he was suppose to be calling from Washington D.C. and his area code was Jamaica I thought it was a scam.
