I think anyone that goes to an insurance agent that sells only one brand of insurance is insane. Go to an independent agent who can choose from many different insurance companies to fit your needs.

I've been with the same insurance company and agency since 1978. I have had several claims on household and car insurance and I have NEVER been dropped or had my rates raised as a result.

Yes, I know the lizard can get me cheaper insurance but remember that the low bid is often not the best.

State Farm has a "Personal Article" policy that can cover all your camera equipment really inexpensively . . I have a complete Nikon D7200 w/6 lens & a Nikon D810 with the 14 - 400mm series lenses (6) and it only costs $106 per year with a "no questions asked" full covered payment for claims . . (coverage is approx $11,500 in equipment)

This is "the way" to get full 24x7 coverage for your camera gear! Covers everything!

I have the same policy. I've never used it thankfully, but I have peace of mind with it.

I keep my photo gear in my carry on bag, and I am perfectly willing to kill anyone who tries to take it from me. That is insurance enough.

Jim, Insurance is always good but for one specific trip/period, you may get better responses if you provide some idea of what you are taking and the length of time you will be there. It could affect insurance needs.

That's correct. My daughter took my Nikon D200 and Sigma 18-200 zoom to Europe and had them stolen from her backpack when she was sleeping. My homeowners rider policy replaced the original purchase value of both with no questions asked other than was a police report filed. The answer was yes, so I don't know if that was a requirement.

Most importantly, you need a detailed list of the gear with values. Some people take photos of it too; not a bad idea. Insurance companies love you when you are paying them. Not so much when you're asking them to pay you. >Alan

We have a Personal Articles rider on our USAA Homeowners policy. It originally covered my wife's jewelry, sterling silver, Persian rugs, etc. Regular homeowner policies had insufficient coverage limits. In the last year, I added my camera's and lenses. Inexpensive peace of mind.

We put my wife's diamond on the same policy.
