Ah, but a small thing compared to the composition. It's like you've got a double frame around the central, self-absorbed guy. The alcove is one, and the nicely-lined-up figures on either side make a secondary frame. I'd suggest a bit more contrast, but, nice job.

Better? It was a sunny day outside of the entrance to the store which pretty much blew out the details of the cars but the people are of more importance.

What Voss said, and, yes, the second attempt is better.

Yes, that makes a good photo better. The cars do nothing more than set an urban scene. As you say, the people are much more important.

Just to add. The direction of the cars versus the reader provide quite a bit of dramatic action. It emphasizes, also, the static position of the people. Overall a dynamic scene captured and told.

Wonderful shot, but I too, thought the 2nd version was more dramatic. Thanks for sharing.

That's why I like constructive criticism - seeing things from another's eyes and viewpoint frequently results in a better image and also helps me to be more careful in my editing.

The Railroad SLL works well in street photography. "Stop, Look, Listen." Then edit!.

I confess I don't understand your editing. You have eliminated the right 1/5th end of the histogram. Those highlights are needed in all the elements within the shadowed area. I guess your camera metered off the brightest spot and its clearly a cases where the dynamic range is very extreme. I did bring up the highlights and burned some of the areas out on the street to make them read better. Dark windows and shadows. Tires etc. I thinks its a fun shot and well worth a bit more work.
