I have been a photographer for over forty years. Started with exclusive Nikon and changed to exclusive Canon with digital. I do not live near a major repair facility but I do not think it matters. I purchased many gray market lens and cameras that eventually needed repair during the warranty. I ate the cost or they became junk. Then I thought I got smart and purchased insurance on the gray market products until I got burned with the company going out of business and the store who sold me the insurance did not do anything. I now only buy USA certified equipment and pay the extra. It was not worth the hassle or cost difference. I have had two cameras and a lens go bad within the warranty period in the past three years. I treat my equipment gingerly but it is electronics. It just depends how much of a risk you want to take.

i don't have anything but good to say about the Canon equipment and service. Canon's customer service is second to none as far as I am concerned. Their repair options are fair and fast under warranty. As I get older I guess I just don't want the hassles that I have encountered in the past.

Thank you guys, I was fortunate enough to spend some time In Japan in the 90s. Learned to love the culture, the food, and the people.

Your opinion of your transactions affirms my experience.
Thank you!
