Yes, I loved the sound of those chains at 6000rpms, mine was a 4 speed with an overdrive handle on the steering column, had to hold the clutch in, move the handle, and wait for the electric shift to get it in OD, didn't go the other way, to get out of it you had to shift into neutral then back into 4th, took a little getting used to!

I used arithmatic and right angle trig in the machine shop.

I was an aerospace engineer for 35 years and now teach an aircraft design class (and one on aircraft turbine engines) at a local university. It's a great retirement job; they pay me to talk about airplanes! I also design, build and fly RC airplanes for a hobby, so I use math a lot.

BTW, I see that you're in Washington state. I got my last speeding ticket there 5 years ago. It was a beautiful sunny morning on US 101 south, about an hour from the Oregon border. It was a slight downhill through a beautiful series of sweepers and I was getting into a nice easy rhythm at what seemed like a moderate speed. One of your fine state troopers got me at 69 in a 55 zone. Considering the conditions and my car (the tires are rated for 186 MPH), I could have easily been going 20+ MPH faster with some margin left. Oh well.

Don't blame me for these state poopers, I get stopped frequently because they think I may be going over the speed limit just because I have a low profile 'sports car'! I tell them this is a touring car and I've never driven it over 130mph!! After they do a roadside they let me go, but they are pissed!! My Toyo's are V rated, I did have Perelli's Z rated on aftermarket rims but I swapped for originals.

I never drove the Furry over 130 either although it would go 160!

I build classical guitars, not much math there (except for converting metric into decimal).

I suspect my Mazda will do 130, maybe 135 (unless it's governed to a lower speed). My tires are Y rated Bridgestones. I obviously don't need the 186 capability, but they make the car handle better - and I buy them at Costco.

I semi-retired 10 years and "filled my garage" with woodworking tools and was really getting into woodworking. A couple of years later I wandered into a hobby shop and walked out with an RC airplane (I flew them until around 1983 when life got too busy). Since then, most of my woodworking has been with balsa and the power tools haven't gotten too much use. Some day I'll fully retire and do both types of woodworking.

Got to do it while you can! There are places to go and family and friends to spend time with. I recently made a list of the places we want to go to (it's a pretty long list!) and put it into a 10 year plan. The plan is in an Excel spreadsheet and I can change the dates and sort by them. My concern is that we'll get to a point where we aren't mobile enough to go to the places and will regret it. If there is at least a "notional" plan you can see the goal and make progress to it. I still think like I'm younger than I am, but then I see people my age and realize that the time to do it is now.

Well good for you, I'm happy just being here and working. Last year at this time I was on a walker, hard to work that way, at Christmas, my daughter, who is a CNA, said dad why don't you try CBD, it sure seems to help my patients. So I did and by Feb 1st I was riding my bicycle again! I was a rock/mountain climber in my older days and I think I'm going to go on a hike soon!!

That's great! About 5 or 6 years ago I got hit with arthritis in both knees and it was painful to walk. I asked the doctor if it was early onset arthritis, and he replied "not at your age." I was issued a disabled parking pass for 6 weeks and took some medication (the alternative was a cortisone shot) and it got much better. My knees are about 90% of normal and I can walk 5-8 miles in a day with no problems. It made me appreciate that there are no guarantees regarding your health. I've been very lucky, as I've never spent the night in the hospital so far.

I havn't been in a hospital overnite either, maybe when I was a kid but dont remember. Took a bad fall climbing but toughed it out, got a lot of aches & pains off-road racing but was younger and shook those off too.
