Way too much time on my hands at work today !! I just finished Ken Rockwell's glowing asessment of the D7000. Now I want one............B&H has Refurbished bodies on sale for $920.00

I am wondering what I could expect to get for my D70 & D200 bodies ?? Because of the lenses I have I will be staying with DX. I currently have Nikon 18-70mm kit lens, 50mm 1.8,
55-200mm VR, 10-20mm Sigma.

Sound like a good move ?? Suggestions ??

Ditto. It will make your old camera bodies look and feel like real dinosaurs!

Check ebay for selling prices of your bodies. The D70 has dropped a bit over the past year, but you can still get well over $100 for it, which is better than using it as an expensive dust collector.

You'll be impressed by the D7000.

One other suggestion you may want to consider. Either of your old bodies would make an excellent candidate for conversion to an infrared camera. Cost runs around $250 for most bodies. They are fun to play with.

Me I would put that money towards a really good prime lens...and be well armed for the next batch of DSLR's comming down the road...month or so...maybe 6. Body's come and go...but good glass....(shrug)

Hey Doc ..... have you considered the D300s or it's up-coming replacement? You're the only one that knows what your priorities are..... I used one last month for a day and I'm impressed with the auto focus speed.

If I were in your place, I'd wait a couple of months for the D7000 replacement --perhaps named the D7100--that's rumored to be about ready for launch at Photokina, at Cologne, 18 -23.09.2012.

I have the D7000, upgraded from the D70 (since converted to IR) and now enjoy my D800e for some situations. But the D7000 is my favorite and I cannot see it being out-of-date for a long time. I keep a couple DX lenses for my D7000 but am slowly going FX. You will never be sorry for going D7000.
Nothing but full-frame is any better.

I've been waiting anxiously for the D7100, but I gave in and bought a second one. I figured why wait. Whatever Nikon introduces, it's not available now, and it will be upgraded in a couple of years. I sold two older Nikons, and now I have two identical bodies, so the controls are the same.

I can understand that---the D7000 enjoys such a good press that I wonder how much better -- if at all -- the D7100 will be. A bird in hand is usually better than one in the bush---and it may take months before anyone in the queue can hope to acquire one. You made the right decision.

After the D7100 is announced, it will slowly start to flow into the supply line. Look how many months people waited for the D800. Of course the flooding in Thailand didn't help any, but still, there will be a wait for the new model. Better to be taking pictures than waiting.

The Thailand flooding had no impact on the D800 availability as Thailand factory only produces DX bodies and lenses. The D800, as well as all other Nikon Full Frame bodies are made in Japan. Slow availability of the D800 and D4 models was, and still is, due entirely to extremely high demand. The secondary cause is the power supply situation in Japan due to the earthquake and tsunami. Electricity is being rationed there so Nikon cannot run more than one production shift, that contributes to lower than expected production levels. If Nikon could run 2 production shifts the supply of the D800 and D4 bodies would have reached dealer inventory levels in June instead of just getting to that point right now.
Only one DX model has been introduced since the Thailand factory has been back in operation, that was the D3200. This leaves room to suspect the D5200 and D7100 may be introduced sooner rather than later. This also has lead to speculation that the expected D600 may have a Sony sensor rather than a Nikon sensor and that it may indeed come from the Thailand factory. (The D800 and D4 have sensors manufactured by Nikon and the DX bodies have sensors made by Sony, who has a sensor factory nearby in Thailand.)

instead of 55/200 ,70/300 is a much better lens.
