We're on a trip now and when reviewing my images, they do not appear in the order taken. The first group of pictures taken are now located near the end. Thanks for any explanations.
Are you reviewing in camera or on a another device?
Most probable cause I can think of is the automatic incremental number was high, almost at the maximum, when you take the first group of pictures, then it reached the max and started again with number 1 for the rest.
Thank you. I'm reviewing them in the camera.

Back home, you can sort them in various orders using Lightroom, or almost any other photo viewer.

Then most probable cause I can think of is the one I mentioned. Although I am not sure how cameras deal with this when reviewing.
Other option could be some resetting/changing of the internal clock of the camera that saved pictures with wrong date/time
I will look forward to more explanations on this Subject here on UHH.

You have probably deleted some photos you didn't want to keep and as these spaces are filled with new photos it is messing up the order they are in. Transfer your photos to a storage device off of your camera, verify that they have all been saved to that device, then before you start taking pictures again format your card in camera.
Import to LR using capture time
Thanks do much for your response.

After you download them to a computer, you should be able to sort by date.

Occam says the numbers ran out and camera started over (or you changed in Menu)- the display routine in the cameras microprocessor sorted available shots and displayed them in numerical order.
Nikon cameras (at least the two that I,vet owned) use a circular list for displaying pictures. So when you are at the last picture and move to the next one, the first picture is displayed. When looking and the first picture and you move to the previous picture, the last picture is displayed.
Maybe you started the sequence of photos at say number 9950 and after shooting 50 the image number will recommence at 0001 and continue thereon. On uploading your images they then could start at 0001 so putting them out of the order in which they were take. Selecting sort by date/time will put them in the correct order.

Your camera reached the max number in sequence and started over ......
