I was surprised to see a separate charge on my credit card for a purchase on eBay. I realize that online sellers must now charge sales tax, but it surprised me seeing it as a separate entry. This is the first time eBay has added sales tax. There was no tax on a previous sale on 5/31. So, be prepared.
It had to happen sometime but still a bummer.

I was surprised to get a $40+ sales tax charge on a used lens from an eBay auction. Had I know that in advance, I might have opted to buy a used lens at B&H and use their credit card to avoid the tax.

I have seen the tax when the vwndor is in my state. Out of state on recent purchases no tax.
States with a sales tax have always required sales tax (or use tax) on out of state purchases, and those who didn't voluntarily pay it were tax evaders, but unlikely to get caught. Now the states have a way to make the vendors collect it and the tax evaders are crying about it.

Politicians are always Hungry for more tax dollars! And there's never any wasteful spending with these creatures!
New Yorkers who buy from BH actually have a better deal than before. We can buy in the store and not pay the sales tax.(I know taxes are paid, but not by me.) Will Adorama, Cameta be next? I think its definately going to hurt their sales if they don't.

Was the tax applied against a private sale or a merchant doing business on eBay?
We NEED to pay the sales tax. The politicians voted themselves a raise, and need the tax to fund it. They could care less about US.
Some how, I keep hearing a phrase I was taught waaaaaaay back in 4th grade....."Taxation without representation is tyranny".
the tax money is not going to feed the homeless , it goes to feed the public servants , with a deluxe retirement .a librarian making 235 k a year , plus all benefits .the private sector cannot match that . this will never stop , get used to it or move .

It only applies to selective "special" states, more to follow (no doubt):

In general there is a lot of tax money going towards projects that benefit various groups, and people outside those groups like to complain about it.
I would like to see more emphasis placed on projects that benefit everyone. Maintenance and development of infrastructure is the first thing that comes to mind. They’re Using big numbers in current discussions.
