Having done so, what should I do with the previous version? Simply uninstall it? Any advise will be most welcome.

I haven't done mine yet, but I assumed the new version would overwrite the old one. That didn't happen with your upgrade?

Nope. Now I have two fully functional versions. The previous version is installed on an ssd drive while the new version installed itself on the C drive.
I have upgraded to Affinity Photo 1.7 from Apple's APP Store and it did overwrite the old version. Because I originally purchased Affinity Photo from Apple's APP Store, I had to wait a few hours for Apple to make the update available. When they finally did, the update went on without any problems. I have found out that if you purchased Affinity Photo from Apple's APP Store or from Windows Store, you can only upgrade from those locations. Serif has no knowledge of you purchase. If you purchased directly from Serif then your product is registered with them. The upgrade should have overwritten your older version. You might want to contact Serif product support if it didn't. Note: I am on a MAC Mojave system.
Thank you! I posted the same question to their forum and waiting for a reply.
Mine is a Windows version. Version 1.7 overwrote the previous version.
I just updated on. Windows 10 machine. Overwrote the original install

Windows 10 here, updated yesterday, overwrote previous version. i have, with other software, kept both versions until I tried the new one and have reverted to the previous version, in some cases, temporarily and in others, permanently due to often used features being dropped from older version and new versions being "buggy." With storage being so cheap and plentiful, hanging onto the old often may have more benefit than not. Still, your choice.
I think that if the old version was on the C drive, the new version would have over written it. At any rate, all is well. Ken
My Mac version of Affinity Photo was automatically updated today.
I downloaded the newest yesterday. In light of what I'm reading here, I checked my hard drive and see only the newest version (square icon).
On a parallel note, I have a question. I've been searching for a browser, like Bridge in Photo Shop. Early yesterday, I found what Affinity called "Media Browser". I actually fund it under "View", opened, and learned how to drag images into it. Well, now in the newest Affinity, I cannot find Media Browser. Can you guys find it in your version? Their Help section says it's under "View".
BTW, Before you suggest, I've learned here, from my great UHH friends, about FastRawViewer. I've already paid the modest fee, downloaded, and it is my Plan B. It will show me all the captures on my CF card or on my DVD I've burned. (Thank heavens for Toast Titanium.) . I'd just like to still be able to use Affinity's Media Browser. And thanks.
Bill
PS: St. Louis here, and we're not under water, yet. Half the steps leading up to the arch grounds (from the river) is under water. But here in the metro area of STL, we're doing okay, and fortunate.
Mine upgraded from the App Store and it overwrote the previous version.
I downloaded the program and i'm trying to figure out how to open an image.?
Drag an image fine onto the app's icon.

...or under "File" menu, 8th selection down is "Open." You can't miss it.
