This train engine is placed in a park near my home. It is set up so that young children can go inside and play engineer. Probably not the intent that older children or adults climb on top, but why not? All comments on the picture are welcome.

Too bad the park can't keep it in better shape. A wire brush and some paint would go a long ways.

Considering that locomotive is over 50 years old it is not in real bad shape.

A bit of care and some paint are still in order. From the shape of the exhaust stack that is an S3 AlCO. They went out of production in 1953. They old girl has earned a little better care if it is going to be on public display. Not uncommon though. Towns and cities all over the world will stick a piece of historic hardware into a public setting and then not spend a dime for upkeep.

You have a real nice subject there, and since it is close by I would spend some time looking at it.

Two options that come to mind are a closer look at anyone climbing on top, and a long view showing more of the locomotive.

Nice catch Allan and get some closer shots to crop it slightly and the rust is okay with me and love the bridge in the background.

Thanks to those who commented. No question that the train could use some TLC. I agree with the suggestions that cropping would improve the picture. It became obvious, but only after it had been suggested.

Very cool shot. My father commuted into Manhattan for many years on this system. The few times I rode the line, I thought it was a real treat and certainly preferable to riding in a car.

Too true! "Our society" seems to function in this adversarial way and we all pay for these law suits with diminished quality of life. So, enjoy the heck out of this while you can. In a local park is a Sherman tank that my kids played on and in. I have photos of those happy days, now my grandson would love to do the same but, it is sealed and fenced off so no one may risk a sprained wrist or ankle. I yearn for the days when we could be stupid and WE paid the price instead of suing others for our own foolishness. Lawyers and naive jurors have made being stupid profitable.

Nicely composed shot, but I would probably crop out the fence
