After admiring photos of the Milky Way, I did some research where to photo, and how to photo, the Milky Way. I did some scouting Saturday for a location, and got up at 3am to get some photos. Sadly, I was lacks in paying attention to where the small nearby town was located in relation to my chosen spot. That mistake, and some clouds, caused some issues, but I got a few decent photos. I have a few ideas to improve for next time.

Thank you, it has its challenges. Then again, if it was easy, that wouldn't be much fun.

Thank you. I decided next time, go out an hour or so after sunset, more time to work, and when it is time to sleep, it won't be so interrupted.

Lovely Milky Way photos. Great for a first timer. You obviously pay attention to ideas others have and make them work for you. Thank you for letting me enjoy your photos.

Thank you! I have a mentor who has been taking great MW photos in Kansas. I bugged him with some questions and noted his EXIF information for some guidelines. I can't wait to go out and try again. Too bad sleep seems to be a necessary part of my life. :)

I like the 1st one, the clouds add interest.
The country lane shots are interesting, are they taken from a moving vehicle?
Very pretty area

Ken, I was concerned I would have too many clouds to make the shoot work, so was glad when I realized they did help in some cases. As for the country lane shots, no, I just moved to the middle of the road, camera on tripod, and shot, 15 seconds or so for those.. This was still about an hour before sunrise. This is a pretty area, rather close to the now more well known Sleeping Bear Dunes.
