Welcome to the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society. We are a group of model RR enthusiasts based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Our club was first organized in 1948, and our current home is located on the fairgrounds of Minnehaha County. And we have been in this location since 1968. Currently we have 38 members, and we host an open house to the general public who attend the annual Sioux Empire Fair, which always takes place during the first week in August. We have the best layout in the tri-state area which includes South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. We also host an open house during the 1st weekend of every month, with the exception of September. I hope that a lot of you will like what you are seeing in
my photos of the S.V.M.E.S.

Keep up the Good work. Been to Sioux Falls many times on the Marshall Sub taking trains to Lincoln or to the Willmar Sub. Nice country to shot RR photos around.

I will add that we have 3 continuous loops of trackage on our layout, and the layout itself is large enough that we are able to run 3 trains on each loop, loop's 1, 2 and 3. So during the week of the Sioux Empire Fair we have 9 trains of varying length running all together. During Fair week I spend an average of 60 hours running trains, and in general helping out with other club members.

NMGal, if you like the really fine detail on our organization's layout, I will tell you that every single locomotive on our club's layout was custom manufactured by a number of businesses in the RR hobby industry, using blueprints and photos of the real thing. But this hobby has become prohibitively expensive. One of these engines such as the BNSF unit in one of my photos you can not buy for less than $250.00 in most places.

Sounds like most hobbies these days, including photography.

That is an excellent layout. I have seen an outdoor layout in Germany that is also very good. I hate to criticize but your photos all appear to me to be slightly out of focus. What kind of camera were you using?

This is a wonderful museum of model train history and the level of care that it must have taken to erect such a thing is impossible to quantify in my head. More please, we'll be waiting.

Well done. Run and collect O-Guage myself. Expensive too.

Just wondering.....what is the structure on the top of the hill in the 2nd photo? I'm guessing something like 4 Corners or an equivalent.
