I can vouch for the Fotodiox on my D5300. I have to shoot manual and with one of my old lenses and teleconverter I get the 35mm equivalent of 630mm. Although I don't use it much, I've gotten some pretty good distance shots. I think I got it three years ago from B&H for $29.95.

I have an old Sigma 400 (in absolutely brand new condition) made in Yashica AF mount (not very common) and the Fotodiox adapters (w/aperture lever) make it fully useful as a manual lens on both systems, it gets exercised every so often on either my A37 or A58, (due to the IBIS and CIZ) so I can go out to 800mm and get a very nice image, once in while on my Nikons. I bought it from the original owner who didn't have the Yashica gear anymore and had no use for it ($35 delivered) I mean, why not? It is the best version of that lens I have ever used (APO, non-APO, etc.) hands down.

I don't do as much of that kind of stuff with the Nikon bodies because the IBIS helps so much, esp. at the long end. I can do in-camera crop and gain 1.3X with my D7100, but the Sony CIZ goes to 2X, so a bit more fun there. Of course I have Tele-converters too, all makes for things to mess with, which is part of what I love about photography. Tokina, Sigma, Tamron, Nikon, Sony, Minolta, Vivitar, diff old M-42's, etc. lenses, don't all get used all the time, but they come out to play, try different approaches, different match-ups. Since I also do PP, it just adds layers to the things i can do when and if I want. Cost (of these additional toys) is less than what some spend on cigs or other bs, I enjoy it, all that matters.

I bought for $29 the adapter. I tried my Minolta lenses and it’s working but because of my eyesight I have problems with it at least on the DSLR (d7000 & d810) but I tried with the Nikon z6 an old manuell tamron 90mm macro what was a beautiful surprise because of focus piking......next time I see my friend with the z6 we will try my adapter with Minolta lenses......

The easy to see "focus peaking" on the Sony cameras is very helpful with the older lenses, between that and the IBIS system, hard to go wrong!!

In Body Image Stabilization. I do not think this term is used by any camera manufacturers.

Yeah .... Sony calls it "Steady Shot Inside".

I have several (6) old Minolta mount lenses, old but in excellent condition....I was wondering if it is worth buying a lens adapter ring for use with my Nikon D500. If so any recommendations ?

I hate to toss them out........

Thanks all !

I bought a Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter Minolta MD-Nikon from B & H. I was aware of some of the issues associated with these adapters but went ahead anyway. Not one of my better moves….

You lose the auto focus and exposure functions, you lose image quality (because of the glass element in the adapter), and you have some light loss (I’ve read that it’s about 1 stop?). Also, and this may not be an issue for you, there is a 1.4 correction factor you have to apply to your focal length. It’s not clear from what I’ve read if this means that, for a crop sensor camera, you have to apply that factor in addition to the crop factor.

They say that you can remove the glass element and use the adapter as an extension tube. There is conflicting info on how easy that is. I haven’t tried it yet.

Suggest you look at the “Q&A” section of the B&H product web page:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/995092-REG/fotodiox_md_nk_g_pro_nikon_f_mount_lens.html

Bottom line, would I by this again? NO!

I have several Minolta lenses used with an old SRT-101. I bought an adapter. The lenses do produce good results, but.. They are built like tanks! Very heavy with fixed focal lengths. (200 mm, 50 mm, 18 mm). The 50mm and 18mm are good for macro use but the weight of the 200mm and the ease of my 100-400mm makes it an unused lens.
Good news- The adapter cost $35.00. Bought it through B&H
