I have a Nikon 200-500mm zoom lens and it weighs 7.5 pounds. I think a good pistol grip would help. Your recommendation would be appreciated.

I must be missing something .... he is looking for a method by which to support a heavy lens .... sometimes you can't use a tripod .... screw a cheap pistol grip into the tripod collar ... then you can support the lens as you would support a long gun .... search the Amazon web site ...

Yeah, you're missing something. The 200-500 weighs 7.5 pounds. The Nikon D850 weighs just over 2.5 pounds. So, camera and lens weigh just over 10 pounds. The Manfrotto 327 pistol grip will support over 12 pounds. I have no doubt that this pistol grip will work with this combination. Not the 322, but the 327.

But the Manfrotto fits on a tripod or monopod ..... My set up is for use when you can not use a tripod .... I use the pistol grip as pictured, when I track and photo birds in flight ..... certainly I would rather use a tripod .... My D800 plus lens has a combined weight of 7.2 pounds .... my arm can still support that weight ....

It never occurred to me to use that kind of grip on such a big lens and camera. I would question just how stable one could hold it.
