My fathers’ parents came here to Ellis Island as betrothed teenagers. They spoke no English. As Sicilians they stayed in Bensonhurst(Brooklyn) for many years. Your pictures have given me extra motivation to get to Sicily. The Grandparents were from Palermo, but I want mostly to see the countryside. Thank you for your pictures.

Thanks you all for looking and for your kind comments. I hope I revived pleasant memories for some of you. For those who do not yet have memories of Sicily I encourage you to make some. We have had many trips to various parts of Italy and I think Sicily was on par with the best of them.

Shhh, don't tell anybody about Sicily. It's a microcosm of Italy that tourists haven't found in great numbers yet. Your beautiful photos tell it all!

Nice set! My next door neighbor growing up in what is now Silicon Valley was Sicilian and he was the Best Man in our wedding. We got as far south as Tricarico in 1973 where we stayed with family we had never met. We have a port call in Messina next summer and are looking forward to it.
