A close family friend of my parents is a famous opera singer/actor in China. He lives here now and has an opera school which put on a student showcase a couple of years ago. He gave me a pass to roam the theater and take shots of the performance. Later, he liked the photos so much, he wanted some posed photos of him during our Association's Chinese New Year celebration during which he always performs before the banquet. I replaced the background with some from my trip to China. Just a sample of the many shots I took. Not your normal people shots, but something different and eastern classical.
Great pictures wonderful outfits Chinese has a beautiful past and \present history
Intriguing series.... totally fabulously ornate wardrobe styling and breathtaking makeup artistry.... love the vivid color harmonies latent within...
Wonderful captures of these gifted opera students who are indeed amazing thespians... excellent use of body language especially the hands by this opera troupe... they brought the roles of sheng, dan, jing (painted faces), and chou to life with superb finesse...
jdubu thank you so much for sharing this window into such an advanced and beautiful culture...
Beautiful pictures! Enjoyed Thomas902’s eloquent comment.
Thank you all for your comments. My mother used to take me to Cantonese operas when I was a child and I have always found them to be a special activity and comfort to me. Not just because of the rich full colors, but the music and the stylized art of the actors handed down through the centuries.
