This drive come out of an old computer. I will like to use it as an external drive for my Lightroom Photos.

Sure, just get a case that supports the size drive you want to put in it. Probably any new case will. Used to be drive-size limits with cases but 1TB isn't unusually large anymore.

Also, if you purchase say a 2 or 4 TB drive you can upload to that and use it as storage. If you purchase a dual slot USB drive dock, you can use a second drive for backup.

If the original drive is old you might as well upgrade. This is not the fastest method, but it sure works.

As an end user only, I have no idea about computer tech stuff. On UHH there seems to be enough questions about computer hardware to that a forum could be established. As stated first, I am not the person to run that forum.

If you are using a digital camera, you ARE using a computer, and you need computers to backup what's on your memory cards, view your photos, organize them, and perhaps edit them
That's tech stuff, so don't dismiss it. Learn about it.

You need this thing:

I bought an earlier version of it years ago, and it works perfectly on Macs and PCs. Now, if you don't like that approach, or want something more permanent, they sell drive cases with power supplies and USB and other ports for both 3.5" and 2.5" drives.

I am amazed of the amount of people that would risk data for a difference of $40 aprox by using an old drive (aprox difference of price between needed adapter/enclosure and a brand new external drive of 1Tb)
