Some sad, abandoned structures along old Route 66. As others have noted, these are some casualties of our interstate highway system.
Sad. Broken dreams in the name of progress.
Very nice set. Glad you got out of the car to explore and photograph. Thanks - John
A beautiful set. Route 66 is probably one of the most famous routes in our country that had brought much joy to many travelers. The stories that these old buildings could tell us today. Had traveled Route 66 many times in my youth with the family. My Dad was one that felt we should know our country. Brings back many memories. Mahalo for posting.

Great images!!!
A lot of "Old 66" near me has been turned into city Streets in some small towns, a few still have some of the old buildings in use.
Nice job, thank you. I love number two with the grass growing in the street. I also love that you have a subject to follow and you do it.

That takes me back. I drove most of Rte 66 in 1959 all the way to the ocean. I didn't realize then it would become such an American icon. That was even before the TV program came out. Lots of tourist and souvenir shops. Slept in the car at the edge of the grand canyon and woke at dawn to take some shots of an incredible sunrise. I wonder if the slides have faded. I might try to look for them.
Good job. I traveled on US-66 with my parents as a child. Some of the motels and restaurants were really odd.

The old Wigwam motels are still in San Bernardino, CA, Holbrook, AZ and Gallup, NM. A Rt 66 hotel and modet site: postmarkart.com/tll_motels.htm
My family moved to California from Indiana in 1956 when I was six. Every year we would visit back east in the fall before school started. Until I10 was built it was on 66 to St. Louis, then on other routes to Marion and Ft Wayne IN and Sterling, OH where grandparents lived.
