Carter, could you please clarify your "Special Flash comment?" I look to you for definitive info, and I have a 77D, which is close to the same camera, and I'm not aware that the "EX" flashes not working on them"--and I'm about to buy a flash.

Thanks, and hope all is well in beautiful Montana,
C

Look up the T7 and you will see the hotshoe no longer has the hot trigger pin in the center, so no current or past standard flash units will work with it. Another one of Canons ways of eliminating aftermarket accessories from working.

Craig - it is my understanding, this is a very recent Canon development, and has only been initiated, so far - on the Rebel T7 and the Rebel SL3. However, more than likely, it will also be incorporated on any and all newer designs, coming down the Pike! … This, of course, is to force us to use ONLY Canon Speedlites. But, more than likely, it will be quite short-lived, as - Third-Party Flash Unit makers, will have a work-around!!!

I'm not sure of what filters to order

Personally, while I do have some filters, I have removed them from my lenses. I do have a lens hood on every lens for protection. I prefer minimum extra glass as each layer makes the photo ever so slightly less accurate.

Digital cameras are not affected by UV light like film was, so a UV filter isn't as usefull on a DSLR. Neutral density filters do help in certain situations, as do polarizers, but I don't leave them on lenses and use them sparingly.

This is inaccurrate and pure speculation. Basing this on 2 entry level models and judging it as whole is like saying the entire population will get AIDS because 2 people have it. Please don't hype BS unless you have supporting evidence. I won't deny 2 models have the center pin removed and being an advocate in artificial light, I find it alarming but no one can say how far this will go unless you are a Canon representative.

Both your analogy AND your spelling - are inaccurate, Haydon ….

That's what I thought, no supportive evidence. The fountain of misinformation. I'll have to add that back into my tagline. Thanks for the reminder Christy oppss sorry for the misspelling. Thread is now on my unwatch. Sorry for the highjack OP.

To whomsoever should be reading this - Haydon must be on one of her off-days. She's forgotten, SHE's the one who told me about the change in the newest Canon camera flash-shoes. It may be speculation, but - I suspect - it's a pretty safe bet, all new Canon cameras, will now sport the redesign. If ANYONE has info - which contradicts this assumption / speculation … I'd be most interested to see it …

Craig - it should be pointed out, here - the EOS 77D and the Rebel T7i - are, essentially - the same camera. The last generation - the T6i and the T6s - were also, pretty much the same camera (as each other) except the T6s - sported the top-deck mounted LCD screen. There were some other small refinements, but, apart - from those, the two were essentially identical. THIS generation - has now split into TWO categories - the Rebel T7i and the EOS 77D - again, the same pairing - but, the latter model - eschews the Rebel label. The Canon EOS Rebel T7, on the other hand - is a beginner camera (like the T6 and T5, before it.) THIS DSLR - is very different from the "i" series - which could be interpreted to mean - Intermediate, OR - "intelligent" as the "i" series Rebels, all sport (amongst other advanced features) the Intelligent Auto-Sensor Cleaning apparatus, which the straight beginner series, lacks. Therefore, the T7 is very different than both the T7i and the EOS 77D. Not only is the sensor slightly different, but the CPU is a much older design. Regardless, the T5, T6, and T7 - beginner Canon DSLRs - can be purchased several hundred dollars less than their "intelligent" counterparts, and because of this are very much more popular

Herewith - a Table of all recent Rebels - to help to keep it all straight:

Rebel Res CPU Top-Deck LCD Intelligent Auto-Sensor Clean

T5 18MP Digic 4 No No
T6 18MP Digic 4 No No
T7 24MP Digic 4 No No

T6i 24MP Digic 6 No Yes
T6s 24MP Digic 6 Yes Yes

T7i 24MP Digic 7 No Yes
77D* 24MP Digic 7 Yes Yes

SL1 18MP Digic 5 No Yes
SL2 24MP Digic 7 No Yes
SL3 24MP Digic 8 No Yes

Well I just ordered a Canon T7 camera. I'm kind of excited about it. Give me some positive and negative feedback on this camera. Also I want to see photos taken using this camera. Thank you

I'm happy for you and that you are excited. You should be. Don't ask for negative feedback. It's too late for that now. Just focus on learning how the camera works, and how to get the best pictures from it. Only you know what your experience level is now, but if you are a beginner you should look at some Youtube videos, join some bloggs on the web on photography, and my biggest piece of advice is to read the manual and get out and use your new camera often. You will never learn to use it if you let it sit around and collect dust.

Hve fun.
