I'm ordering a lumix FZ200. Haven't decided what SD card to order.thinking of ordering top end lexar professional, xc10 64GB. Price is $133.95. Would I be wasting my money? Any help and advice would be appreciated . Thanks everyone. Only been a member for a few days, but have already learned a lot. Great group, glad I found you all.

You may not need that large of a card to start. An 8GB card would be good to start with. I'm always leery of putting all my eggs (pics) in one large basket. If that card fails you will lose many pics. I prefer several smaller ones. If one of those fails I wouldn't lose mearly as much.

Thanks kestrel . Great advice. Hadn't even thought of that. What about the Lexar high end card vs cheaper . Worth it?

64 gigs is a lot of memory. Are you planning to do a lot of shooting before you download? I would think several 4 gigs would be all you would need to get started.

Lexar cards are good. Unless you are shooting at high burst rates I find that you can't tell between the fast cards and slower ones.

You can store 1525+ RAW 12MP photos on a 64GB Card. The Lexar Pro SD card is a Class 10 card. You can buy a Transcend 64 GB SDXC Flash Memory Card TS64GSDXC10E Class 10 card for $57.98 including shipping on Amazon. I have Transcend cards and have no problems. Your choice of where you want to spend your money. 8-)

That being said...IMAO putting all your photos on and relying on one single 64 GB card is not the best/safest way to go. I would buy two Transcend 32 GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory Card (TS32GSDHC10E) from Amazon for $22.92 each including shipping saving yourself some money and giving yourself a modicum of safety.

That is.....if you want that amount of capacity.

I think you would be making a mistake buying that expensive of a card no matter what size. I have a bunch of 16 & 8 meg class 10 SD cards. My reasoning is simple: They're cheap and if one of my cards craps out, I haven't lost that many pictures. I paid about $9.00 for a 16meg 1 month ago at Microcenter. They have a lifetime, no questions asked replacement warranty. They are the house brand. I think the are made by Kingston and Kingston makes about 90% of the SD cards that are out there. I have had only 2 go south in 2 years. Those ones I kept using over and over again, just like the one I am using now. If I am going to shoot something special, I always use my 8 meg cards just in case something happens, I have not lost a lot of good photos.

Anything labelling itself "Professional" is to be avoided.

The SanDisk Extreme from a reputable dealer is an excellent high quality card with a lifetime warranty. Hard to beat.
Just beware of low priced counterfeits.

Also, unless you are buying a fast card reader, you may well be wasting a lot of the speed a fast card can give you

You really only need a card of that size and quality if you intend taking full HD movies. 16Gb is a good size for general use. Anything over class6 is good.

I think big, fast cards are more critical for video not so much for photos. I get class 10 8GB cards. I've never had problem with Lexar-their cards or card readers.
