For all. Why no manuals

I just purchased a new Olympus E-M1-II. As my Pen F it had no include a full manual with it. My Nikons do.

Why can't a manufacture produce an included manual with such an expensive product? I know there manuals are not perfect; yet, they are very useful and can't cost that much to produce. Are the makers just that greedy and selfish? I find it absurd.

Of course it does cost but they did it because so many people don't read the manual. I think they still give you a PDF manual right. Of course it's not the same as the paper manual.

They got your money. That's all that matters.

The manual is probably available for download. And, I was correct. https://learnandsupport.getolympus.com/support/e-m1-mark-ii#section-download-manual

Manuals cost money to print. Marketing has probably found, as a lot of us reading posts here, that most people don't read the manual, or read enough of it to make it worth spending the money to print it.

My Canon G7X II came with a basic manual, but in order to make some of the adjustments I wanted to make, I had to download and read the full manual. I'm sure it's a matter of cost for them.

Today very few people read the manuals. Even here it appears that a large segment do not read them.
I do read mine and carry it with me in my camera bag all the time and do refer to it as cameras today have so many features that you forget at times they exist or how to use them if you do remember. Look at old 35mm manuals like for a FTb, very thin and most is about photography in general like what apertures and shutter speeds do etc.

The manuals are usually available online at no charge. Although Nikon provides paper, I always download them to a tablet. It is much easier to look things up. I also have all my camera and accessory manuals
in one place. Nikon has a great app for that.

As to why Olympus doesn't provide paper manuals, they may have done a study and found that most people never read them. We know there are plenty of people here on UHH who never crack the spine.

It is possible that if you call them they may provide one. My Jeep Grand Cherokee, costing more than most cameras, only came with a quick start manual and a DVD or CD. A call to the manufacturer and I got about 4 pounds of manuals in the mail. They provide them free to original owners, but only if you ask.

Good luck.

Edit:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It's a lot less expensive to publish a digital manual that can be accessed on line than it is to print a manual for each individual camera.

I am one of those who doesn’t read the complete manual. However, I like to have one on hand to look up specific items or problems. I do resent the fact they no longer provide an index at the back.

Ditto, my manual is in camera bag, as well as on the laptop. Things that I might use once a year?? Or set after I got the camera?

I still have my Ftb and AE-1, and manuals. Yes, thin. They didn't have a million options to set or adjust.

Plus if you want to update the manual, it's a waay lot easier to update the website.
Otherwise, you're sending lots of addendum pages to lots of people who won't read them.

Interesting, I've never known ANYONE to send out an updated paper manual.

I generally download the manual from “Support” at the manufacturer’s website while I am waiting for the camera itself to arrive. So far, Fujifilm has graciously supplied printed manuals for the cameras I bought from them, but I like having digital copies that I can save to my tablet and my laptop for easy reference. And I like getting an early start on reviewing features. Fuji manuals have at least a Table of Contents if not an Index.
