I photograph these little birds a lot and they sure do like to fight. I'm getting better at shooting them. Sometimes I get them in flight, sometimes at rest. Now my challenge is fighting. But here are a few recent photos. Critiques all welcome as I am trying to improve. I use a Canon XS and Canon T3i, with tripod, remote and 580 ex II flash - through a window sipping on coffee in my livingroom. ;)

Very nice. My advice is to not shoot thru the window. It is not optical glass and will cut down on the sharpness
Just me but I can't see how these can be improved upon. Very nice captures.
Thank you, I never thought about the window not being optical glass therefore it might not be as sharp as it can. You are so correct and I'm usually worried about using filters because the glass may not be as good quality as the lens optics and here I am shooting through my window. I think that I will at the very least try to capture a few outside to see if I can see the improvement in sharpness. Cheryl
These are actually very nice; especially when using a flash through glass. I shoot 99% of mine through the window also because it is too hot to go outside plus I am lazy. And yes, shooting through glass cuts down the clarity by at least a good 10%. So, imagine...
I don't see how any of these could be improved upon, especially not the second one. By the way, I shoot through glass all the time. If I didn't I wouldn't have any bird photos.
