Have any forum members had experiences with Hoodman Raw Steel SD cards? I did a search on the Hedgehog site and couldn't find any comments.

*Ruggedized and Steel-Plated
*Reinforced internal housing structure that protects sensitive flash components from harm
*World's only Steel Plated/Ruggedized SDHC Card
*Waterproof
*Lifetime warranty

New to me.
I've never had a problem with the "regular" cards in ten years.
(Maybe I'm just careful.)

True. Since I started buying name brands, I think I've only had 2 failures in 6 years.

My sense is that Hoodman has it made for them by a SD known manufacturer. If you look in B&H reviews are favorable.

Haven't tried but seems to be a company solving a problem, at an upcharge, that doesn't exist for most.

This is a card no one really needs but a few will buy anyway.
Those who buy these cards fall into one of two categories of photographers:
1) The over-paranoid, obsessive types who imagine all sorts of highly unlikely, bizarre scenarios.
2) The photographers who love to brag to others how much superior their gear is, including choice of SD cards.

Or photographers who are super clumsy with their gear.

When the ad says lifetime warranty, are they talking about the steel plated unit itself or the memory it contains?

Hoodman are the only ones I use. Started when I had a new D90. Wanted to try them after reading how they were made. Got use to using them, and one day put a name brand card in and used it. Could not get camera to shoot as fast as it was while using the Hoodman card. Switched cards back to Hoodman, and camera was back to shooting like I was use to. Have since bought Sony 7Rlll and Hoodman was my card of choice. No problems what so ever. Have other Hoodman products, and will recommend all of them.

An over zealous salesman tried to sell me on one of these. He used the tactic of stating that "you need it if you remove the card often". I told him "no thanks" and bought the standard, plastic one. I have used Hoodman for a while and have had one fall apart. It was replaced under warranty with no problem. Good card, but I'm not so sure that the extra money is worth it.

All sd cards are waterproof, it's just a solid IC with embedded contacts.

An armor-plated SD card? Oh please.
Reinforced internal housing? There isn't any open interior space to reinforce.
Waterproof? So is any regular SD card.

Find something else to spend money on.

That falls under the paranoia category. It takes a lot of force to break a standard SD card; simply dropping it on the floor a few times won't do anything other than perhaps create minor scuff marks.

Delkin Black SD cards have a lifetime warranty and each has a serial number. Delkin marketing says it will replace your card in 48 hours if it fails.
