Today I focused on a couple of Hummingbirds and a Scrub Jay. Light was filtered by a light cloud covering. All were shot with a Canon 7D and 150-600mm Tamron lens mounted on a tripod.

The first two are of the Jay as he tried to maintain his rather precarious perch in the wind.

Nos. 3, 4, and 5 are of male Anna's Hummingbirds. The iridescent throat feathers change as the light hits them.

The last shot is of a juvenile (I believe) Anna's. It appears to be in the process of getting new feathers without showing the more colorful ones seen on the adults. It was the farthest away at 40-50 feet and a bit wind-blown.

Well done neighbor! This is a great set, every one is a winner. We have a nesting pair in our yard....noisy, bossy, bullies but I can't help thinking they are interesting and attractive. You have captured thier beauty.

Maybe I should record their screeching for effect. They’re not my favorite birds, but I do like the blue. The babies are fun to watch when they sit next to the feeder and beg to be fed. Eventually they get the idea.

On rare occasions, I see Stellar Jays in the area (but not the yard) and would really like to get shots of them. They seem to have lots of personality by comparison or maybe I’m just tired of the regulars.

Thanks for taking time to look and comment Phil. It’s always good to hear from you.
