The easiest way for me to put some JPEGS on my iPad or iPhone is with a small adapter for my SD card that plugs into my devices. Works great. Usually only need to do a few but you can do many if you want to.

It is a Apple SD to lightning adapter or if you have older Apple devices then the “adapter” has the 30 pin connector. Of course, if your Apple device is one of the newest models that has a USB “C” connection then you will want the Apple SD to USB C adapter. By now you have probably guessed the Apple SD card adapter is available at any Apple store or authorized Apple retailer, such as Bestbuy etc. Amazon.com sells them at $39.00.
As long as all your Apple devices are of approximately the same age they will probably all have the same input connection, hence you will only require one of these adapters for all of your devices. But, before buying an adapter please check your device’s connection port(s) to ensure you get the correct adapter.
All the best, Garth

You can pay $39 for the Apple branded adapter or you can pay $12 if you don’t care about the brand.

I use two methods to transfer all types of files from my D7200 to Apple iPad/iPone devices. The hardwired card reader from Apple and the built in wireless function found on the D7200. Both work fine. The Nikon function requires downloading an app to your Apple device before it can talk to your camera. The card reader is plug and play with no set up. The easiest to use is the card reader. The Nikon is more versatile and offers additional functions.

I have the Apple device. Works great with all of my cameras with fast downloads. Just plug in the SD card and plug it into the iPad. Easy even for me to use.

I’ve also used both methods. The WiFi works well, but it’s slow. The card reader is pretty fast. The app is still worth getting because it allows you to use your phone or iPad as a remote.

I have an apple device but was unable to download photos to a new 128 Gb iPad. I shoot only in raw. Do I have to have the photos saved as a jpeg first?

I have no problem downloading raw files. Apple doesn’t have the codec for my Fuji S1 bridge camera, but it still downloads the files. They just show up as blank spaces in the photo ribbon in photos. No problem at all with my Panasonic or Nikons

If I wasn’t to transfer images to my iPad/iPhone, I use wireless transfer from the camera. It is nice because there is no fussing around with adaptors or flash cards, but not as fast as a wired transfer.

However I usually import images to my computer first, because I like to rename them, and I don’t have an app for renaming the files on the iPad.

If anyone knows of a goo file renaming App for iPad/iPhone please advise.

I’ve used wireless but if you’re transferring 200 raw files it would take hours. I like the phone or iPad because I don’t have to wait until I get home to upload. And the iPad is a convenient tool for culling the pics before renaming them.
