Greetings, I'm looking for a new password keeper (non subscription). Your thoughts on auto generated passwords ie. logged passwords for Amazon, credit carts etc. Currently using an MS app, free but horrible! I don't mind a flat fee for including all my devices. Any recommendations are appreciated.

What's wrong with creating your own, seems a lot easier and safer to me?

I use KeePass. It is free and I have been successfully used on both my PC and Mac computers.

My company had hired a White-Hat Hacker to see how vulnerable our company was to real, nefarious hackers. This hacker "owned" every data system in our company in less than 24 hours. He was that good. While working with him, I asked him what Password Manager he used. He told me he used KeePass because it was free, and extremely impossible to break into. If the extremely competent White-Hat hacker recommends and uses KeePass, I know it was one of the safer choices.

My strategy is to store a Master copy of the KeePass data file on my Dropbox account. I then download a copy to each of my PCs and Macs, and on a daily basis, only use the downloaded copy. When I need to make a change, I make the change to the version stored in Dropbox, and then re-download the KeePass data file. This way, if my local system becomes corrupted, I have a backup version safely stored in the Cloud.

And now the Captain Obvious comment. Make sure your password (pass phrase) to the KeePass file is very strong. I typically have a 15 to 20 character password to the KeePass data file. And over time, muscle memory allows me to type the KeePass password quickly.

I use "Last Pass".

But I also have been using "System Mechanic" for a few years and their maker Iolo came out with a 4 app suite that includes "ByePass" - if I didn't already have everything in Last Pass I would use it. Maybe the next time Last Pass comes up for renewal I will switch and save a few bucks a year - I am going to keep using System Mechanic anyway.

I keep them in a little ring binder (in pencil) and a PW protected spreadsheet.

note book and paper....wherever you store your password on the PC - someone can find it !
nobody is going to rummage through your drawers looking for a password...they will just nick your computer. sticky notes on monitors are not an option.

Your brain can generate more 'personal' passwords by thinking about your past life...things like artists names, song titles, your first car reg number etc. if you write them down your brain can 'relax'.

have fun

Passwords are easy to come up with:

(I really don't know what I want to do today!)
I'm told it would take a computer about 400 years to crack this one.
