therwol: A BIG, BIG thank you for the warning. I now need to learn how my lens could be modified, if that is at all possible. The lens, as well as a 150mm telephoto and 35mm all are non-AI, having the "saddle" that engages the aperture sensing pin on the meter head. My D7100 thanks you, too.
If you do get your pre-AI aperture ring modified and use it on your camera, there is one more step you need to take. You need to enter the focal length and maximum aperture into your camera as a non-CPU lens. I believe that after this is done, you can use aperture priority metering or manual metering, and the exposure data will be entered properly into the EXIF data on your pictures. I think that you control the aperture with the aperture ring rather than the camera. These images are from your user manual, pages 149-151.
