When I watch the aerial shots of B52 bomb drops and see those concussions I wonder how anything could survive that attack.

Hey Bud, I didn't bring up the subject of bridges. I merely responded to a comment about them. I don't think you are able to follow the conversation too well. Take a reading class.

Wow! That was insulting and rude wasn't it? Have you never, ever thought someone wrote a reply only to find out it was another person instead. I have. When asked about it and upon checking I found out that I had indeed answered the wrong person and then apologized. No harm, no foul and easily rectified. But of course for those people who are perfect such as you, I guess you never make a simple human mistake. Must be nice to be King and perfect.

On the otherhand, the Russian bomber nicknamed The Bear is a four prop plance but is still one of their major long range bombers.

It is.
They have very fuel efficient engines- especially compared to jets- that allow them great range.
The props are 2 counter rotating props, furthering their efficiency..
The problem is that they are SO NOISY you'll hear them a half hour away.

Yep, I was fortunate in that I am only 5'6'' tall in combat boots. The floor to ceiling height was 5'7'' and I could stand up with the helmet on without bending over. Now days when I fly commercial coast to coast I wonder how I ever could stand the 20hr flights. To this day, I can't sleep on a plane,,,,just too many flight hours in the BUFF.

I'm still laughing!! They never showed Rock Hudson in SAC quite that way!!!

I loved your comment about noisy aircraft. Speaking of another airplane, I have always loved the appearance of the DeHavilland Beaver. While on a caribou hunting trip with my brother in Alaska we flew to the hunting area in a Beaver. As my brother piloted his own aircraft at the time, but not a Beaver, he let me sit in the front next to the pilot. It was a lifelong dream come true for me. I still think of it to this day from time to time. But the noise of the engine, even wearing ear muffs, was incredible. So LOUD.

My other dream aircraft I will probably never get to ride in are a Cessna 195 and a Stinson. Both beautiful aircraft from long ago but still in use by some.

What struck me was when I toured the Memphis Belle was the stenciled lettering before the cockpit “Crew: 10”, Total Crew Weight: 1200lbs.” I also understand that each 50 cal machine gun was limited to 500 rounds due to weight. You also had to have some big ones to be a ball turret gunner sitting in that aluminum and plexiglass sphere.

I believe more bomb tonnage was dropped during Vietnam war than in all of WWII.

Some of my (deceased) friends were pilots.
My youngest BIL was an air force pilot; Bush's PTBs made sure he was retired at 19 years.
We used to go get the $100 burger. You need to fly often, keep your hours up, keep your license.
So we'd go from Hawthorne to Long Beach. Or Torrance to Santa Monica. Etc.
The burger was good, but @ $10- the other $90 was fuel, oil, etc costs. Per person.
The free buffet in Vegas cost us a lot more.
