Thank you for the additional help. I was using a target from Joe Christina's site which is a paper fold up that provides a 45 degree ruler as you show. By the way, the last time I encountered the term orthogonal was decades ago in polymer chemistry experimental design (ref: Owen L Davies) where orthogonality was the practice of using equally spaced intervals in the design to make ANOVA easier.

I use Bay Photo in Ca. They do a excelent job. I just had them print a 11x30 on metal it really came out great.

Hello David--I bought the 200-500 when it first came to market and have used it for birding and daytime HS sports on a D500. D3 and D7000. Always great results. Any of those cameras, any action--it just gets the picture! Buy the refurb and if you're not happy, sell it when you get back. Good luck and post some results when you return

I think anyway you go you can't go wrong. I have used it in a lot of different different situations and have gotten good results
