I am only 3 years into photography (digital) and 30 years removed from film photography. I am basically learning. If you don't have anything constructive or helpful, please disregard posting such crap. Now, do you think I took this personal...
Actually don't think you took it personal because I probably gave you some of the best constructive advice. One can spend a lifetime learning and becoming "good" at DSLR photography but most people can learn what a 24mm or 240mm or whatever lens is for in about 5-10 minutes (which hasn't changed since film days) let alone owning a $2,000 camera and lens for over 3 yrs!!! And the rest hasn't changed much either - mountains, streets, people, etc. But I did just notice the retired USAF so that explains much. Have a great trip.

Don’t try to spin it as good advice. You were just being an ass. You could easily have just read the question and moved on if you had nothing decent to say. As a matter of fact, you could have just read the subject line and moved on. So it looks like you read the question already planning on belittling the OP. These questions are pretty common on here, and while I’m usually pretty sure what I want to take on any trip, I can understand the indecision of others. I also reject your conjecture that there’s no difference in shooting different cities or different mountains. There’s nothing wrong in asking people that might know an area better for advice. That’s what these forums are for. Whether or not you think the question is valid is no reason to treat the requestor with anything but kindness.

I live in Henderson 30 min away and photograph in Vegas a lot. I usually only carry my 24-105 f/4 L. Don't be obvious and don't look pro with a lot of equipment, otherwise the guards in buildings will chase you even if you are only photographing the interior architecture. And forget taking a tripod to use in buildings. I also would suggest you take a day or 2 and visit Death Valley. It is a cool spring and still not too hot right now, although that will soon change. I plan to head up there myself this weekend.

The 24-70mm lens will get 98% of your shots/ . We went to Las Vegas this past November. Do not miss the opportunity to go to Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon. I prize those photos more than inner-city Las Vegas.

Will be going to Las Vegas beginning of June for 4-5 days. Not sure which lens to take. I have the following and only want to take one of them: EF 24-70mm f/4L; EF 16-35mm f/4L; EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II. I was in Vegas about 6 years ago but didn't get a chance to take any photo's as we were busy with a wedding. Want to take street photos and general photography. Will also be visiting Zion NP. During my visit to Zion, would I be able to use my EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L lens?

If you only want to carry one lens, the 24-70mm. BUT if you are going to zion you will also need something longer, 70-200. And you can go through Zion and go out the back side through the tunnel and your at Bryce canyon where you will also appreciate the two lenses. While at Zion, pray for no rain and hike to the narrows, A MUST, if you are physically able.

For sure this one: EF 24-70mm f/4L. A moderate zoom lens can cover most all the photography you will do in a city.

I would recommend toward the wider angle end of the spectrum. Everything is so large there that it is really like shooting in the mountains. You can't get good shots with anything long because you miss most of the scene....unless you are zeroing in on a person or hotel room from across the street. I shot these with my 10-22mm Canon.....no RAW shooting back then (almost 2 years ago), no post processing, shooting handheld and in an auto mode, and the vastly varying brightness meant lots of my shots were blurry and junk. two years more experience tell me that Vegas is a pretty challenging venue to shoot unless you go manual, shoot RAW, and maybe use a monopod or tripod (hard to do with all the people).....to me anyway. Need more time out there to experiment.
