I don't know... each communicates differently to the viewer. Ultimately, the choice should depend on what you are attempting to communicate with this image.
Personally, I would have concentrated more on sharp focus of the tree. But both have the same/similar appeal to me, Colour and B&W.
Ansel Adams and I like the B&W which enhances the feeling desolation and depressing gloom.
I’m with rook2c4, both are good and it is how you want the viewer to ‘feel’. I find this in most B&W vs color comparisons.

Both!!
The color is fantastic, nice soft light.
The B&W is very dramatic!!!
I agree with rook2c4 also. Both have appeal; neither is absolutely stronger than the other. It "depends"
The b&w looked rather blah until I saw it in download, and there it really pops and is on a par with the color version. I’d go with the b&w if there were a more prominent sky, but without that I’ll have to choose the color version.

I am a fan of B&W but in this case I like both of them equally.
Both are really nice shots.
If I would do anything I would crop both the left and right a little.
On the right I would crop out the Jousha tree branches and on the left I would crop it a little more to the
lone standing Joshua tree.
But thats just me.
I dont think you can go wrong with either one you pick.
Edit: after second thought I'd leave the left hand side alone and just crop out the branches on the right.
