In the past I have benefited from your helpful advice for which I am grateful. I purchased a chrome book to make a small business easier, since i am a very serious photographer I would like to use the chrome book as one of my backups. Currently I am working with two ipads and Ime disorganized to say the least, apple doesn’t work for me. I need apps for both that will allow me to keep originals with all their edited versions and slight variations. Thank all of you in advance. rod
A photo editor would be classified as an "app" (software or program), but file storage is on a computer's hard drive, a thumb drive, an external storage device, paid storage online etc. One has nothing to do with other in the sense you seem to be asking. In other words, photos are not stored
in a photo editor.
Chromebooks have limited storage capacity; that's not their purpose. So they can't be a backup storage device.
A Chromebook runs on Google Chrome operating system. The editing software you can install on Mac or Windows is not compatible. You can try Snapseed, however. Most of its features now work on the newest Chromebooks. Additionally, there are online photo editors for Chromebooks:

thank you p, I’m using Snapseed as my main editor along with both Pixelmators
Chromebooks prefer to save everything to the cloud. You should be able to backup photos there if you like, otherwise "local" memory storage is limited at best. However, you can get a goodly number of photos on an SD card or thumbdrive and access them with the Chromebook, but then you have to have the external memory with you to access it when needed and again it's not like having terabytes of storage to deal with. I use my Chromebook for any access to the internet and keep my PC isolated from the internet for protection from all sorts of software and internet attacks, etc. Works for me, but your mileage may vary.

I agree with Sonny Boy. You have a google account, backup/store all the photos on “photos.google.com”
Had a Chromebook for a short time when my Android tablet died. I did not realize how limited it was until I tried it. Exchanged it for another Android tablet, many more Apps available including Photoshop Express. I don't use the Galaxy Tab S2 for main storage, only has 32 GB. But is handy to display some photos copied from my 1 TB hard drive on a laptop.
