Ok..Lowered the feeder, camera no longer pointed at the sky. (I think that helped the most) Manual focus. Otherwise camera is on auto and 1/400 sec shutter speed. A breath of Photoshop.

Obviously better. Try using manual exposure mode to increase f/stop to give you slightly more DOF. Raise your ISO as high as your camera will allow. If you raise your exposure slightly (more light) you will brighten up the underside of the bird.

Before you reinvent your wheel, give some of the suggestions that were first made here.

I would first allow autofocus to work, but have one center focus loci showing on the viewfinder. Place that at the head of the little bird.

Make sure you can stop the bird's motion. 1/1000th of a second. These two things could make your photos more sharply focused.

After that, you might need to attend a class at a local university on digital photography (advanced level) This will address so many things about your camera's abilities. From there, utube offers many training opportunities.

Have fun learning this wonderful and enlightening hobby.

I usually use a flash which "freezes" the wings.

Is it possible that this is a DOV issue? The humming bird looks to be on the far side of the feeder.

Focal length is set at 210mm, Aperture is at 6.3 and shutter speed reads 400 with an iso of 100...

...with the cropped sensor you would hope that 6.3 might be small enough but, maybe not?

It could it be as simple as going to a smaller aperture? That would improve your depth of view. At iso 100 you have room to bump up which would allow for a faster shutter speed.

Iron Sight have you considered flash with HSS?
Works well for me... I also use one of my favorite models to talk to them...
My hummers are very sociable... and will come right up to your face once they get to know you...

I wish you well on your journey...

Nicely done. One could barely tell that these are two shots. I had to download and look at 100% around the humming bird to see a slight background edge that's lighter around the bird. Very creative though but maybe your model is too pretty as I'm drawn to her before the little bird! LOL The lighting on your model shots is perfect which gave the idea it was two shots. Oh and your previous blonde model pulling her hair back was stunning. You certainly are a master of light.
