My impression of a portrait is that it includes, obviously, the head(s) of the subjects. However, I feel portraits should be cut off somewhere above the waist. Otherwise, these are quite nice.

I photographed this couple yesterday, and it was the first portrait they had done in 31 years of marriage. They are happy with the shot; however there are things I would like to change.
If you were to redo this shot what would you change?
My main change would be his shirt.
My second change would be to add a prop. i.e. a set of wine glasses.
Looking for suggestions.
I haven't spoken to them yet. We have pouring rain today, and i'm not sure i could do it today or not.

I might add it would be easy to clone a button onto the pocket.

I like the photo and the end result. My comment is about your name. It immediately reminded me of Philo Beddow. Not sure of the spelling of the last name but it was Clint Eastwood in the movies with the orangutan. It is meant as a compliment on your name.

Could a wider aperture have thrown the background trees more out of focus?
Blurring out the details in the background might make them compete less with the people for the viewers attention I agee with another comment about including the
feet. As a rule of thumb the space above the head should be twice the space under the rest of the person (in this case under their feet.)

Close, but it is the name of a small town in No. Ca... the movie title was "Every which way but lose"
