looking for a Nikon lens

I have a few lenses and my go to lens
“AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm f1 3.5-4.5 G “

I would like a lens that will go on both sides of that reach….
Somewhere around 16mm or 18mm on the low side and somewhere around 100mm to 120mm on the high side…..additionally a F 1.8, even 1.4 if I could find it…..

Do they make such a lens…I've looked at Nikon, Sigma and Tamron sites…if they make it, certainly not on the 15 or so sites I've searched… I would communicate directly with Nikon, but doubt I can get an answer via their web site…and UHH folks (that are much smarter than me) respond fast

Actually Nikon makes 2 lenses in your search range:

Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX NIKKOR VR II Lens

Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX NIKKOR (VR) Vibration Reduction

I have the 18-140mm and get pretty good results out of it. Pretty much lives on my D5200.

Now the f1.8 could be a tough one.

You’ll never find zoom at 1.8, much less 1.4. That’s PRIME territory. 2.8 is the best you’ll do but it’ll actually decrease your range, 24-70

You're not going to get that 1.4 or 1.4 with this range of zoom. If you could it would be as big as and as expensive as a house. For that range, f/4 - 6 is all there is.

I have a
Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S NIKKOR VR Vibration Reduction Lens - U.S.A. Warranty that I am very happy with. It is light weight and offers a good range especially on a sports field. It serves as a great back up lens with my 300 F2.8 that I usually use with a 1.7 extender.

DX or FX? I couldn't see based on your post... apologies if I missed it. If you're shooting with FX, you're probably outta luck for something in that range at 1.8. However, if you don't mind a prime lens and need something wide angle, I'd strongly suggest the 20mm f/1.8. Holy smokes, it's a great lens.

The Nikon 28-300mm is a good option, but if IQ is a concern you might want to look at the 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/2.8. Nikon, Tamron, and Sigma all make them. I usually keep the 24-70mm on my D850, pack the 70-200mm along with a x1.4 or greater teleconverter in my shoulder bag or backpack.

For FX there is NONE. In fact there is no FX that the long side is longer than 50mm and the short side is shorter than 24mm.

It’s already been said - 24-70 f2.8 plus 70-200 f2.8 - 2/3 of the “holy trinity” of lenses, but about 4K$ and 4lbs total. Consider primes (plus an extender if necessary) - fast, light and generally better IQ.

As far as the D810 is concerned, there are few things in the menus you will want to set but, don't let that hold you back. I purchased it a few years back , took a couple shots in the P mode to look at the settings for a starting point. Put it on manual, spot metering, single point focus & haven't looked back. Once a while I'll use auto ISO with wild life going in & out of different lighting. Good luck with the lens!

A person asked the same question yesterday. You should check out the responses to that.
