The upcoming expansion of Res in APS-C sensors, to 26MP, and possibly 32MP ... a wise move, or not?

For some years now, APS-C sensors have staggered at 24MP, but, last year, Fuji introduced the 26MP XT-3.
Now, it seems - Sony will be introducing a 32MP APS-C sensor - which will produce a higher Res, obviously, than Canon's 5D IV (30MP) - it looks like this move might turn the DSLR/MILC biz upside-down - comments?

Haydon … I have no addictions - to ANYTHING …

Now, then - tell me why you feel this is a silly post …

If you can't … then, please - don't comment on anymore of my Topics … it gets very tiring - yaknow?

You know what I find silly, Haydon? … and downright offensive, too? … THIS ANSWER!

What sort of comment are you looking for? The only downsides are the higher storage requirements and the likely possibility that processing larger files in post will be slower.

Well, okay, Mark … I think we can all live with that … it's a trade-off, yaknow? … Remarkably higher RES - for an APS-C design … and, we will need 512GB SD cards, and expect to take longer, working in PP …

I can dig it … anything else untoward we should expect - for this advantageous bonus?

Too little, too late. Maybe an upgrade to 50MP, in APS-C format, or even Full Frame. 26MP is not worth a thought, as it is not that much greater than 24MP. A 32MP sensor may be worthwhile, but would work better in a Full Frame format, as would the 50MP.

Yes, but Sony has already produced a 42MP sensor, for some of its FF a7 line, and for the a99 II SLT. Word is - this new 32MP sensor - will be used in either the a77 Mk. III SLT, or the upcoming a6700, or BOTH!!!!

I was glad when Nikon reduced the resolution from the 24 megapixels of the D7100 and D7200 to 21 megapixels for the D500 and D7500. That's more than enough resolution. They should have stopped at 16 megapixels for APS-C sensors. There are only downsides to the ever increasing resolution. They have to make the pixels smaller and smaller. Diffraction becomes evident sooner, more care needs to be taken to avoid camera shake, increased digital noise.

Canon has already developed a 120 megapixel and a 250 megapixel APS-H sensor. There are probably too many issues to put those in a camera on the market.

You should try the D850, I think you would rethink your thoughts on too many pixels. Resolution and detail I've never seen before on any of my lower pixel count cameras.........Paired with Nikons best lens the results are Fabulous

CO - word is there is a 32MP APS-C sensor in the works (actually, the body is already patented) and it will appear both in a Canon (possibly, the 7D3) AND in a Sony - perhaps, the a77 Mk. III, and/or - the a6700.

To each their own, but from me, kudos to Chris.
He's an entertainer, who engages others into an
improvisational entertainment genre.

Entertainment is the principal value of the forum.
Advice and information is on very shaky ground.

Well, thanks, USER - this is just about the ONLY postive comment, on this thread, so far ...

I wouldn't pay much attention to Haydon, though - it seems, her primary goal in life is to aggravate me!

Amen.

Just got me an "exotic" 12MP body and am truly
blown away by the imaging. Acoarst, at 50 inches
wide one begins to notice some aliasing .... so if
one usually displays images that large, then 24MP
would be a huuuugely better choice. Scaling up to
72 inches, 50MP would be great.

I do feel quite constrained by an inability to show
its images at much over 3 or 4 ft wide. I am ankle
deep in crockadile tears over that !

FWIW, while I do have several different 24MP FF
cameras on hand, this new 12MP just blows them
away. Only downside is that it's not pocket-size so
it can't be with me 24/7 :-(

Canon is getting ready to release a 32 MP crop, certainly a much higher pixel density than your 850 or my 5DSR, but I have two questions about it, one will it have a low pass filter, and two how will it handle noise.
