I was reading reviews for TVs and it said that the curved screen was poorly received and not as pleasing as the flat screen. Would seem that putting a flat photo on a curved screen could have some distortion.

It actually takes the distortion out of it (being curved)!!

First off you must remember a computer monitor is used differently than a tv.
Most often when using a monitor you are sitting directly in front and center unlike a tv where you may be sitting any where in a room viewing from different angles at different times.
A curved monitor looks flat when viewing it and there is no color shift at the edges as a result of the polarization filters in the screen. Simply look at a standard flat screen from the side and you will see the color shift. Picture this, draw an arc with a compass, the arc is the screen the center point is your eyes, the curved screen will be the same distance from your eyes as they rotate in your head as you look side to side
and the polarization filters will be lined up directly at your eyes instead of at the side of you head.
THEORETICALLY....
Ok now for the reality. I own a 34" curved screen which I find very useful in my every day use.
I do cad drawings and love all the real estate these offer. you can put up two or three windows and easily read and move between them without looking through stacks of windows. If you feel the need for more screen I would go for it and wouldn't look back. More pixels the better.
Good luck hope this helps.

They tried selling curved TVs also......

I wouldn't have a curved monitor, have a 65" 4k curved TV it is horrible unless you turn off every light in the room it spreads reflections across the entire screen. Got it for a quarter of the list price but now I wish I had a flat screen. I have a philips 40'' 4k monitor it's great except windows doesn't know how to scale menus and text, they become awfully small. Photos look good though.

I would never use a curved screen for anything. They made them because they can.

Well, that's not quite accurate. Some people prefer them over flat screens and others don't. It's nice to have a choice.

Printed pictures are flat, viewing in the camera is flat.

Some people prefer them because it is said to reduce edge distortion. Remember this is not a picture, but an electronic device. The goal of the curved screen is for your eyes be equidistant horizontally from every part of the screen. How successful it is, and whether all curved screens are equal, I cannot say. Some people swear by them. Some reviews have said that curved screens are not as effective in removing distortion as promised.

Some people prefer them but they made them because they could. It was not possible to make a curved LCD screen then they figured out how to do it so they had to make it.

The fact that they made it because they could doesn't mean that it doesn't work or doesn't work effectively for some people.

Sure some like it. Only that the guys who designed it wouldn't use it.

I hope you mean that as sarcasm. I would guess there is a very good chance that the guys who designed it probably use one.

A few years ago I was playing around with pinhole photography. I made two large pinhole cameras from a large laundry detergent bucket, and used 8X10 B&W paper for the negative. One camera had a curved back from the bucket, on the other I fashioned the back from foamcore board and the curved part of the bucket was the front of the camera.
After developing my pictures I found that viewing the picture from the curved back camera was distorted unless I curved the picture while I was looking it.
I would expect there would be the same distortion (but to a lesser extent) from a curved monitor. A picture printed and viewed "flat" would be slightly different than what you saw on the curved monitor.

I love my 27" curved HP monitor. Never want to go back to a flat one. Also have 78" curved Samsung for TV.... wonderful ! No more flat monitors for me.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I decided to stick with a flat screen which works fine, EXCEPT it isn't playing nice with Photoshop CS6. The picture is fine (sizewise) but I cannot get the menus or worktools any larger than miniscule. Any thoughts?

Don't know what you are using, but on a Windows 10 PC right click on the desktop, select Display Settings, and in the Scale and Layout section increase the percentage from the recommended default. There are other more complicated ways to do it for a specific application, but I suspect if the menus are too small in Photoshop they'll be too small in your other applications as well.
