I downloaded a trial of Capture 1 and was curious if there was anyone using this program and if there is a way to only import one photo to the program?

At a minimum, you need to create a new "Session". Then you can import one or more photos, preferably a raw file, into the session.

I use it and yes, use a referenced catalogue, session, or a new catalogue.

If you try to import one picture into Capture One Pro it will try to import all the raw files or all the picture files in that folder. This is a very fast process.

You do not need to use the catalog. That is what sessions are for. I never use the catalog.

I find that the easiest way to do this is to start capture one and then drag and drop the file onto it. This is the fastest way to begin work.

It will start a new session inside that folder. The session is where it stores the meta-data that includes all the changes you make. It does not take up much space and it is useful for when you want to continue work or start a new variant.
