Davinci Resolve is a video editing software and a pro one at that, luckily for us there is a free version which is very powerful and a studio version which is even more so.
We just want the free version , at least for now.
But why do i want a video editing suite when i work with photographs? Because there are unique editing tools which are not available in image editors. For example lumetri scopes , color grading and a lot more. You can use and create film looks ... trust me there is a lot.
davinci resolve can open image files just as easy as video. You could make a video from stills adding audio and text dissolves and more but thats not why i'm excited to use this software. It's the luts.
load an image into davinci resolve color grade and process with davinci's tools and then export these edits as a LUT.
Reload your image in Affinity Photo and add a LUT layer and load the LUT you just created in Davinci Resolve.
Reuse that LUT on other images (or video).
You could use Premiere Pro instead of Davinci Resolve and Photoshop instead of Affinity Photo.
However one requires about a $50 a month subscription while Affinity Photo is a one off cost of $50 the results should be identical using your LUT in photoshop or Affinity photo.
The latest version of Davinci resolve is a 1.6 GB download. It loses collaboration features and a few other bits we as photographers don't care too much about that are included in the $300 studio version.
To get the free version of resolve you just need to register and immediately download.
Many thanks for the info!
