Used to be a book called Photographer's Market that listed 1000's of places interested in purchasing photos.

I have never tried that but have heard that it is a very competitive market and hard to sell in. For instance the woodpecker and deer both have twigs or grass sticking up in front the body and both are a little soft on the focus so would probably not be considered as buyable.

Having said that you seem to have an eye for wildlife so keep at it and keep trying to sell!

Just remember to always apply the "Rules of Thirds" and "frame within the frame" composition in taking pictures especially nature ones.

Sorry to be frank, but based on a few recent threads on marketing, there's not much market for "half decent" shots. I still like your shots, especially the gosling, but there's a lot of competition out there. Good luck!

It is very hard to sell nature pictures. I have found however, that if you really want to sell, sell in person. Arts and craft shows or you can do like I am doing and plan to open a gallery. I have sold 6 pieces in a matter of an hour in person. Something about picking it up and touching it helps the sale. On line is tough and in bulk even tougher. Go to Fineartsamerica.com and see how many artist are just at that website.

I sell my pics at art and craft shows. But i find most of my sales are in the greeting card format, which is very profitable.

So you have greeting cards printed with your photos on them? Clever idea.

I contract with Corbus (Bill Gates still owns it I think). But they are pretty particular about the photos they will accept. If you want to start stock shooting, go look at their offerings...it covers everything.

I print my own pics and then attach them to blank cards. Within a cellophane package is the card and an envelope.
By using blank cards they can be used for any occasion.

Hi Unluck-D,

I nevered planned to sell any of my images. I got lucky when two stores in my area asked me to. I had to figure out how to print them and mount them. I was lucky enough to meet the staff at Bay Photo who helped me. You can Google Bay Photo and tell them what you're looking for. Hope that helps.

That's exactly the way I have been doing it for several years, here in the States, and they sell very well everywhere I have them on display. Doing it all by hand makes it difficult to keep up with the demand at times.

Thank for all the advise. Maybe I'll try some art and craft type stores. Will also try Corbis.

I've sold a few nature (animal) photos on stock sites, but not enough to cash in bigtime. Crispy clear focus is mandatory and even then, if a photo is accepted on a stock site it might not sell.

I think stock photo sites are trolled mostly by advertisers and nature photos just aren't what agencies are looking for. (How many people do you know who go to stock sites looking to buy a photo?)

I read about a guy who specializes in "family," "office," and contemporary shots taken for the sole purpose of marketing them on stock sites and this guy makes a bundle, but that's what he does all the time.
