Yesterday I got an email from Adobe telling me about their new pricing structure: Get Adobe Lightroom for $9.99 per month, or Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge for $99.99 per year, Now go figure that.

Somebody at Adobe is a math genius. The $99.99 is a good deal.

Dividing the figure by twelve yields $8.33 per month
for what was previously billed at $9.99 a month. So where's your gripe?

Apparently, you either don't like Adobe products or math is not your strong suit.

I would think that it is all about cash flow for the company.
Continue dribble in $9.99/month to get less product or send in $99.99/year immediately to maintain the same products (+Bridge?).
When this "subscription" business started I don't think that anyone seriously thought that the prices would remain the same, or did they?
That is why I jumped to Libre Office (https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/) then Microsoft went to a "subscription" based services.
I'm sorry to interject my thoughts on this since I don't have a dog in this fight.

The "other shoe" just dropped.... Adobe's prices are going up!

Well, sort of.

According to Adobe's own website, there are now more plans:

1. LR (CC or Classic) + PS CC with 20GB of "starter" cloud storage: $9.99 a month (or prepay a year for $119.88... same price either way).
2. LR (CC or Classic) + PS CC with 1TB of cloud storage: $19.99 a month.
3. LR CC only (not Classic), no cloud storage: $9.99 a month.
4. PS CC only with 100GB of cloud storage: $31.49 a month (no commitment) or $21.99 with annual agreement.
5. All twenty Creative Cloud apps incl. PS, LR plus Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro and many more, up to 10TB storage: $79.49 a month (no commitment) or $52.99 with annual agreement.
6. All Creative Cloud apps plus Adobe Stock: $82.98 a month.

Under Adobe's new plan, the price of the "cloud" subscription for LR and PS with 1TB of cloud storage has just doubled from $9.99 a month to $19.99 a month.

Except it hasn't... Because you can still get the LR/PS bundle for $9.99 a month. However, the included cloud storage has been reduced to a "starter" 20GB.

Something new is that now you can subscribe to LR only for $9.99 a month. (I.e., the same price you used to get both LR and PS... or the same price as the "starter" cloud storage plan above) This offer is for LR CC only. It's not for LR Classic, which is the only version that works on Windows 7 and 8. LR CC requires Windows 10 or Mac OS v10.11 or later. If you are still using one of the older Windows (or Mac?) operating systems and want to continue to do so, you'll need to buy one of the bundles in order to get LR Classic.

Adobe estimates 1TB of storage will accommodate approx. 20,000 RAW or 200,000 JPEGs.

Adobe estimates 20GB can accommodate approx. 4000 JPEGs. They don't say, but if the above RAW vs JPEG 1:10 ratio carries over, this is only sufficient for approx. 400 RAW files... However, a lot depends upon the size files your camera produces. With the 24MP cameras I use, I get around 35 RAW files per GB on my memory cards, so would be able to store around 700.

Additional cloud storage is available in 1TB increments, at added cost of $9.99 per month per TB.

There is no mention of Bridge at all (it's an integrated module within PS CC, anyway... can't be bought and installed separately).

All the Photoshop and Lightroom offers include Adobe Spark Portfolio, which I've never used and have no idea what it is.

There is no mention of a $99.99 annual plan on the Adobe website. Some plans are cheaper with an annual agreement, but it makes no difference whether you pay them monthly or prepay for a year. I haven't looked into it, but I'd wager the "annual agreement" is non-cancellable and requires automatic payment by credit or debit card.

And once again Adobe sets the hook deeper. They raised the price of Photoshop so high that only a very few could afford it so they went to the subscription plan. They lowered the pricing to get more people hooked once again and now they begin raising their pricing. They play the long game called "Bait and Switch". They will continue to raise their pricing just like they did with Photoshop originally. It's called charge what ever you think the market will bare or until you begin to loose money. They know that once you spend your time learning their programs it's hard to switch to another product. Therefore the hook is set and it's time to raise pricing. You're right about cash flow. The monthly subscription was to smooth cashflow eliminate the peeks and valleys caused by bi-annual upgrades. I don't think they counted on the monthly subscription resistance nor the number of great competitors that would spring up.

My price has never gone up so I'm not sure what you're talking about. I used to pay $50 to $70 a year for Photoshop Elements updates and another $50 to $70 a year for Lightroom maintenance. Now I pay a predictable $120 a year and I get the full Photoshop product. Every now and then I look around at what's new and improved in other products but have yet to find anything that works the way LightRoom does. I process images from a busy weekend in 1/5 the time it took me using regular image editing software.

I'm glad you have software you love that isn't from Adobe but your claims aren't founded, price has stayed the same, no hook, only an image management system that's truly revolutionary.

Any chance you could share a link to this new annual price option? I just looked around in the account preferences and can't find any option to change to a cheaper annual payment...

I just found this published by Digital Photo Pro newsletter: Link below:

"Adobe "Temporarily" Removes $10 Option For Creative Cloud Plan, Angering Photographers

The new pricing plan—which includes Photoshop and Lightroom—appeared as a test to increase the digital-imaging service from $10 to $20 a month."
