‘Rest & Be Thankful’ on the way to Inveraray, Argyll, Scotland & More.

The Rest and Be Thankful is quite literally named as a place where travellers in olden times would stop, rest and be thankful that they had reached the top of their steep climb, before continuing on to their destination. The original road was built by soldiers in the mid-18th century. The road now used can be seen on the left of the shot, it often has landslides and gets blocked with snow.
Inveraray is a town on the western shore of Loch Fyne.
The Inveraray Jail and Courthouse opened in 1820 and remained unchanged until 1843 when secure yards were built for prisoners to exercise in the fresh air. The jail closed in 1889. After extensive renovations it reopened to the public.
The Parish Church was built between 1795 and 1802. It was built to house two congregations, the English and the Gaelic of Highland, a solid wall separated the two. In 1957 the Gaelic End was converted into a Church Hall.
The War Memorial was sculpted by Kellock Brown in 1922. Made of bronze on a stone base. In memory of those who died in service 1914-1918.

I always like to look at your photographs and the story that goes along with them, this series is up to your usual high standards. Incidentally, your camera time is almost two hours out, if the church clock is correct.
