Hello all,
I know zero about laptops, I would just like to upload photographs and edit them with Lightroom and transfer to flash drives. Do not need to store a large amount in memory. I’d like to spend about 500 dollars but am will to go as high as 700 if I had to. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank Marty.
We've had two Toshiba Satellites for years and they do well.
But, there's dozens out there....
(Mine is has an Intel Core I5 processor, 4Gb RAM, 600Gb Hard drive, but it's from Feb of 2012!)
Wow, I've had this one over seven years!

Marty - I bought an Acer Aspire from Staples a couple of years ago, for just about $200 (with coupons.)
It has an AMD 3.5 Ghz CPU, a 1GB HD, and 8GB RAM - the latest, too - what is it, now? … 2600???
Haven't done much with it (bought it as a gift for my lady) but it has a base of MS software, built-in. Of course, you only get to use WordPad, Access, and the others for a month, then you have to pay on-line.
Never thought I'd buy an Acer (the desktops aren't much to cry about) - but this one's a REAL winner!!!

A good gaming laptop like Asus G Force. You want the money in the video/ graphics card mostly, and the screen image resolution will be the much better.
Other than that, use external (portable size) storage hard drives. They are inexpensive and a better way to store information.
I should have been clear that I was referring to the RAM, HD size and other specs.
The OP said that $700 is the highest he's willing to go, but some of you are recommending laptops costing a minimum of $200 more. I only use a laptop for photo processing when I'm taking a workshop away from home and that Dell laptop cost me $2000 over a year ago. Otherwise, I use a desktop for photo processing. You want a good screen, a good video card, a fast hard drive? Not cheap.

All of that is good, but the graphics card and monitor are the most important, plus the monitor screen.
Macs are good for those who are not spec nerds because all the hardware parts and software are fully matched from the start. No need to purchase some software initially loaded that expires after you are hooked.
SSD drives are now standard so i would not buy a spinning hd unless it was one of a group used as back up.

I agree, but again, the MacBooks are expensive, ranging from +/- $1100.00 on up to well over $2K for a MacBook Pro, and up to $1200.00, give or take for a MacBook Air, so they would be out of the OP's price range.
Best value for money is a Lenovo laptop from Overstock .com I have supplied over 30m to my customers and have had no callbacks on them except viruses
