Is there any way of bringing more than 1 picture into Affinity from Apple Photos?
The whole Apple Photos file is locked and closed off from Affinity per Affinity's usual instructions (FILE-OPEN etc) when opening Affinity directly.
When one accesses Affinity through Apple Photos Edit, one can only work on the single picture that Apple allows one to work on at a time. You cannot access a 2nd picture to get a cloud image, for instance.

I was able to right-click a file in Photos and edit with Affinity. That got the first file in. I was the able to do the exact same thing with a second file and Affinity had both files open. I then selected the second file in Affinity and created a mask layer of the second picture under the first picture. Don't know enough about Affinity to be able to tell what to do from there but did get both pictures open from Photos into Affinity.
