I do not know what he used but "liquify" and layers in Photoshop can do that.

A little brush, a little paint, a lot of layers, a lot of blends and starting with a pre-existing abstract always helps.

I cannot decide which one I like the best but I am leaning toward the 2nd one. Tough call.

I took the original photo at Antelope Canyon and created the starting absbract, which I didn't like. This end result came from that.

The new technique is starting with a blank color layer then drawing the lines by hand. Now I'm not sure since these may resemble bowling ball designs.
