Or an electronic flash.

This is what I was working with, the comment by Pixelstan77 and then your comment of, Or an electronic flash.

Perhaps you can explain to me why my reply is ignorant. I have no idea and stand by my comment. Are you saying macro photographers don't use electronic flash, don't use electronic flash if they are using a tripod or WHAT? Perhaps you could clarify your position to begin with. I am sure many of us would like to know what that position is.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I was merely adding to Pixelstan77’s comment: “... don’t use VR because they are using a tripod” or an electronic flash.

I have used the Nikon 105 f/4 Macro since film only days. Got the Sigma 105 f/2.8 a few years ago, and later, got the Sigma 180 f/2.8, because I was so pleased with the results I was getting with the Sigma 105. The Sigma 180 allowed me to have more space between 'shy' subjects and camera, plus, the lens had a tripod mount on the barrel. (very useful). Have been pleased with the quality of images with Sigma lenses.
