Just thought I’d ask. Is there an interest in a new topic field for cellphone photography? It seems to be an up and coming interest.

I like teaching photography using smartphones. It frees the photographers-in-training to pay attention to what makes a good picture - lighting, composition, timing, etc without getting confused with camera settings. It just makes sense.

I would hope that a Smartphone Photography section would highlight content rather than the contributions by the many self-proclaimed expert "gearologists" that dominate most threads on this and other forums.

Cell phone cameras pre-date the iPhone by several years. The iPhone is 12 this summer. So phonetography is not new. It’s just another way to make images and video.

Can we concentrate on MESSAGE and not medium?

Phontography has a nice zing to it.

Here's my recent phontograph

Its a Metal X-Banner Frame i designed that uses tension to hold and keep the banner up and can be folded approximately the size of an umbrella with no parts to loose so its easy to store.

Very minimalist and made to last.

Planning on having it patented.

I have two Smartphones, one (Nokia 6.1) is used as a phone and the other (Lg G4) as a second camera. The LG has an excellent lens with a F1.7 aperture and takes superb images, the main drawback with using a smartphone is when it is sunny and it is difficult to see the screen, to get around this problem I use the stubby handle from a selfie stick and use the button to take a photograph.

Good info. Thanks!!

Lots of answers with useless info and mostly opinions. I asked for info from your experiences with specific models. If yoi have none, then please don't reply. Thanks!!

Did this thread get hijacked?

My 2 cents:
Being on the wrong side of 80, I no longer feel like carrying a DSLR with it's accompanying lenses on trips which 90% of my photos are taken. I love my Canon SX60 with it's great zoom. I am slightly embarrassed to post on UHH because the downloads can't compare with the pricier cameras. My photos and videos wind up as a composite on a DVD so OK for me.

At times my GF uses her iphone right near me and due to absolutely sheer LUCK a few of her shots are better than mine. ( Don't worry about me... she doesn't read this.)
If more cellphone images were posted, I wouldn't be as embarrassed to post mine.
