After many many months of comparisons, I've narrowed my choices to two Leicas: the V-lux 114 Type or the D-lux 7. Both meet my needs for the types of photography, the image quality I want and the lighter weight that I need at age 82. Does anyone think I'm crazy? Go ahead, I won't be offended. (Snide comments not welcome.) Thanks for helping.

Be happy with whatever decision you make. Both good cameras. The D-lux 7 is approx 1 lb less. Each has pluses and minuses depending upon the photography you want. No you are not crazy.

I think that is great. What are your considerations for choosing between the two? The V-lux 114 seems much more interesting to me.

I would pick the D-Lux 7 as it's a much better looking camera and has the Leica look while the V-Lux 114 has the typical high power zoom bridge camera look which I think is the worst of all types.

Does the way a camera "looks" effect the images it produces?

I have a friend who sells Leicas. He doesn't own one due to the repair costs if one ever needs repair.

I would suggest, since money is obviously no issue, renting both and see what you think. Use them at the same time for the same shots and compare feel, balance, weight, handling, results.

Hello,

I believe the the Leica V-Lux is exactly the same as the Panasonic FZ1000 but with the Leica
name on it and a price tag that is $300-400 more.

Also Panasonic has just come put with an upgrade to the FZ1000
which is the FZ1000M2 (or FZ1000 ii). It has a couple of improvements that
exceed the original FZ1000 and the V-Lux.

Crazy? Why? For not buying both? That's always an option.

I like this site, but it might not be helpful comparing two similar cameras. I like the looks of the D-Lux.

I see nothing wrong in your selection of cameras. We should use the camera we want and what makes us comfortable with the features we need in our photography. That is specially true if we can afford the price.
No, you are not crazy. Go for it.

I love Leica cameras of all types from their DSLR's to the M rangefinder series. Yes they are pricey but if you have the money and desire then by all means buy one. It sounds as if you know exactly what you want down to two choices. I would go to a store and see how each feels in your hands. Choose the one that feels best and will meet your needs/WANTS.
