I have Lightroom 5.7 on my old Win 7 PC. An upgrade to a Win 10 machine is inevitable. Has anyone been able to transfer LR 5.7 to a new machine? I think I have the old installation program, but don't remember all the details of the registration process.
And no, I don't use it often enough to justify $120/year to rent access to the latest version.

I don't see any reason, since you have the original disk, that it wouldn't install.
If you don't have the old disk, but bought it through Adobe or registered it with Adobe, you should be able to go to your Adobe account and download the software and retrieve your license info to activate.
I recently tried re-installing lightroom after changing computers... I have an IMAC. No trouble, except when I provided the serial number, Adobe found I had purchased the program but did not allow me to register. Insisted I had the mobile version. Still working the problem, need to telephone them. Be sure you have the serial number.
A few things to consider, developed from my own experiences migrating LR v5 between win7 and win10 machines:
1. Assure you have the software serial number and the install files. Access the Adobe site and download the file prior to getting started.
2. Assure you understand and have copies all the various configuration files from the old machine. Inside LR in the Library module, go into Edit / Preferences / Presets. If you are not already storing the Location in the same as the catalog, go to the location they are being saved and copy these files to the new machine.
3. On the new machine, see #2 above, update the presets location to the Catalog after you have the software installed and are ready to use. Add all your existing presets (old computer), if any, into the appropriate "Lightroom settings" subfolder.
4. Don't change the drive letter, if you can avoid it, where a) your images are located and b) where your LR catalog is located on the new computer.
